The macula is a small, focal area inside the eye that converges visual messages to the optic nerve. Cataracts, like macular degenerative disease, can be an age-related eye problem. These diseases are influenced by free radical damage to the lens and other parts of the eye.
Conventional medicine does a great job with cataracts. The operation is common and successful. Macular degeneration at times can be treated with laser therapy, but with results less than optimal in many cases. New genetically engineered drugs are becoming available. I remain hopeful that these will be of help.
I work in partnership with the ophthalmologist. I appreciate the hard work and methodology that they use for the treatment of these disorders. They are, however, not geared up to offer IV infusions or nutritional advice for the problem of macular degeneration. These can be very helpful. The eyes can try and repair the problems with the building blocks from nutritional and homeopathic supplementation, antioxidants, ginkgo biloba, and other natural substances.
